Music composer Pritam Chakroborty, who is a favourite of the Bhatt camp, brings forth another likeable soundtrack in forthcoming film "Crook". Even though the compositions fall under his signature style and not much experimentation is involved, the tracks do have the potential of getting noticed.

Directed by Mohit Suri, the film stars Emraan Hashmi. The album boasts of eight tracks.

The soundtrack begins on an upbeat note with "Challa", a song soaked in Punjabi flavour. It's an energetic, foot-tapping number that holds the interest of the listener. Sung by Babbu Mann and Suzanne D Mello, it surely is a good start to the album.

The song also has a remixed version.

The mood of the album then shifts to a soft, romantic track "Mere bina", sung by Nikhil DSouza. The song has influences of rock that gives it an edge and makes it interesting.

It also has an unplugged version with KK behind the mike. This one is a shade better than the original track and immediately strikes a chord with the listener.

Next in line is "Kya", which is a typical Neeraj Sridhar song. An amalgamation of Hindi and English lyrics with strong orchestration and a western approach, the song is quite apt for the singer's voice. It is neither bad nor brilliant.

Then KK returns with "Tujhi mein", yet anothert romantic track. Even though the song is hummable and soft, it has a heard-before feeling.

The song's reprise version, sung by the same singer, is better and more appealing than the original.

Finally there is a beautiful song in "Tujhko jo paaya". The track has the acoustic guitar in prominence that gives it a pure and raw feel. Mohit Chauhan's brilliant vocals give the song an edge. The song is like a country version "Mere bina".

On the whole, the soundtrack of "Crook" follows Pritam's formula that usually results in hits.

There are many factors that compel you to have high expectations from the soundtrack of director Shankar's forthcoming film "Robot" - it is one of the most expensive films of the year, it stars Rajnikant and Aishwarya Rai and, most importantly, the music has been composed by Oscar-winning music director A.R. Rahman.

In spite of all these factors, the music of "Robot" doesn't impress that much. It lacks the punch and the wow factor that Rahman's songs are known for.

The album has seven tracks.

The soundtrack of "Robot" begins with "O naye insaan", sung by Rahman's daughter Khatija Rahman and Srinivas D. The slow-paced track is a gloomy one and is sung in a way that it seems a robot is singing it. It's a situational track. Even though it is not such a treat to hear, the song might look good on screen.

Next is a romantic song "Pyaara tera gussa hai", which has something like a scientific language. With Mohit Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal behind the mike, it has some weird lyrics, maybe because the film features a robot.

Then comes "Naina mile". The fast-paced number is sung by Rahman along with Suzzane and Kash 'N' Krissy. It fails to make a mark.

Strong orchestration marks the arrival of "Arima arima". Sung by Hariharan and Sadhana Sargam, the song describes the protagonist of the film. This is also a situational number and and not hummable.

Up next is the song called "Kilimanjaro", a very strange title for a song. Javed Ali and Chinmayi have crooned this peppy track that talks about a girl from the hills. It is better than others but doesn't exude the charm of Rahman's compositions.

Then comes the title track of the film in two versions. One titled "Chitti dance showcase" and the other "Boom boom robo da".

"Chitti..." sung by Pradeep Vijay, Pravin Mani, Rags and Yogi B fluctuates between slow and fast beats, while "Boom Boom..." voiced by Madhushree, Keerthi Sagathia and Tanvi Shah along with Rags and Yogi B is a fast number with a hip hop flavour.

Unfortunately, none of the versions really appeal to the listeners.

On the whole, the music of "Robot" does not appeal. They may suit the script of the sci-film, but the audio is not impressive.

Music composer duo Vishal-Shekhar hardly go wrong when it comes to judging the pulse of youth and creating music to suit their tastes. After the success of their last venture "I Hate Luv Storys", they are back with their new album "Anjaana Anjaani" that has the potential to rule the charts.

The film offers nine tracks.

It opens with the title track "Anjaana anjaani ki kahani", the one that has already become a favourite at DJ consoles. Crooned by Nikhil DSouza and Monali Thakur, this upbeat and peppy song is entertaining and is a perfect dance number. It gets right for the album.

Next comes an instantly likeable song "Hairat", sung by Lucky Ali. The rock song is full of punch and is highly appealing owing to its interesting composition and Ali's out-of-the-league voice. It will surely become chartbuster.

The album then takes a turn by introducing the soulful voice of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, singing "Aas pass khuda", a sufi-rock track. The moderately-paced song is pleasing to the ears and strikes a chord with the listener.

The song has a duet version where Shruti Pathak joins Khan. This unplugged version is equally enthralling with light orchestration and brilliant vocals by the singers.

Shekhar and Caralisa Monteiro then enter with the love song "Tumse hi tumse". The happy-go-lucky song has nothing extraordinary, but the acoustic guitar strumming makes it a good hear.

Up next is another impressive song "Tujhe bhula diya". The poignant number first starts with Shruti Pathak adding a touch of folk flavour to it and then Mohit Chauhan enters with his silken voice and takes over.

Later Shekhar joins in too. The song is nice and has the potential of becoming a favourite since it grows on you with every hear.

The song also has a remixed version called "The dance to forget" mix.

Then there is "I feel good" with Vishal and Shilpa Rao behind the mike. It is average and entails both Hindi and English lyrics. This too has a slight rock feel to it.

Finally, the other title track of the album makes an appearance. Crooned by Vishal and Shilpa again, it has a heard before feeling, thus taking away the interest from the song.

On the whole the album is a robust mix of songs of different genres. It is entertaining and hummable and will appeal to the younger generation.

We Are Family

Filmmaker Karan Johar and composers Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have always belted out chartbusters, so the expectations from "We Are Family", Johar's latest production venture, was high. But, though the album offers few melodious tracks, there is nothing extraordinary.

The album boasts of six tracks.

The soundtrack begins with a romantic duet "Ankhon mein neendein" by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shreya Ghoshal. The love song is likeable, but offers nothing great as it has a heard-before feeling. However, the brilliant vocals by two talented singers makes it enjoyable number.

Next is the Indian version of Elvis Presley's classic song "Jail House Rock". It is called "Dil khol ke let's rock" and Hindi lyrics are composed on the tunes of the original. It seems that the composers wanted to repeat the success of their song "Pretty Woman" from "Kal Ho Naa Ho", but somehow it doesn't work. The song fails to impress.

Singers Anushka Manchanda, Akriti Kakkar and Suraj Jagan manage to do a decent job, but no one could even get remotely closer to the legend.

Then comes "Reham o karam" and Vishal Dadlani and Shankar go behind the mike for the song. It starts as an unplugged version, but soon strong orchestration with rock elements make an entry that makes the song interesting and engaging.

Melody strikes again with "Hamesha forever", which is a soft, pleasing song. Sung by Sonu Niigaam and Shreya, it generates interest in the beginning but soon the repeat element creeps in the composition.

Up next is "Sun le dua yeh aasman", a slow version of the theme song. Crooned by Shankar, the track is backed by minimal musical arrangements - something that makes it quite soulful.

The soundtrack also offers a slow-paced instrumental theme track.

The music of the film is neither bad nor brilliant but the feeling of déjà vu is felt in most of them. It's high time Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy reinvent themselves by indulging in some experimentation.

Keeping in mind the film that is set in a small town in Uttar Pradesh, composer duo Sajid-Wajid have composed a soundtrack for "Dabangg" that has mass appeal and is entertaining.

The album offers 10 tracks.

The soundtrack of the much-awaited Salman Khan flick opens with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, a favourite of Sajid-Wajid, crooning romantic track "Tere mast mast do nain". The moderately paced track is likeable especially due to the brilliant vocals, and the change in tempo gives an edge to the track. This is a song you would like to hear.

The number has two more versions - one a duet with Shreya Ghoshal and the other a remix.

Then the album takes a turn and brings forward a completely different song "Munni badnaam", composed by Lalit Pandit and sung by Mamta Sharma and Aishwarya. The item number goes well with the character of the film. It is fast-paced and catchy.

This song too has a remixed version attached to it.

Romance again creeps in the soundtrack with Sonu Niigaam and Shreya Ghoshal behind the mike for "Chori kiya re jiya". The song is a soft and melodious love ballad. Even though the composition doesn't offer too much experimentation, the song exudes a pleasing effect.

Next is the title track of the film, which has a faint resemblance to the title track of the film "Omkara". Yet, it is hard-hitting and appeals to the listener. The song crooned by Sukhwinder Singh and composer Wajid himself, describes Salman's character in the film.

Then there is "Humka peena hai", a song soaked in the folk flavour. Vocals by Wajid, Master Saleem and Shabaab Sabri, this dance number is meant for the masses and has dholak as the predominant instrument. This has a remixed version too.

Finally, there is the theme song of the film that is packed with dialogues by Salman.

On the whole, the soundtrack of the film is entertaining and apt for the film.
