Music Directors: Sajid-Wajid

Lyricist: Gulzar

Singers: Sukhwinder Singh, Sonu Niigaam, Wajid, Neuman Pinto, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Suzanne D'Mello, Roop Kumar Rathod, Shreya Ghoshal, Rekha Bhardwaj, Sharib Sabri, Toshi Sabri, Shabaab Sabri and Sunidhi Chauhan

Rating:***

Composer brothers Sajid-Wajid have come up with one of their best works in Salman Khan's period drama "Veer". The soundtrack boasts of eight songs and the music is melodious, hummable and is an interesting bouquet of various genres.

It starts with "Taali", a song brilliantly crooned by Sukhwinder Singh, Sonu Niigaam, Wajid and Neuman Pinto. The power- packed track gives the album an edge and a positive start. It is hard-hitting and makes the listener sit up and take notice.

The song also has a solo version by Sukhwinder and it has been sung with a lot of punch.

Up next is a total contrast to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's mushy track "Surili akhiyon wale". It is melodious and extremely pleasing to the ears. It also has English verses by Suzanne D'Mello, something similar to the song "O ri chhori" in "Lagaan". It's surely a likeable number and will make an impact.

It also has an extended version with Sunidhi Chauhan, who sings it in a way unlike her original style.

Then there is "Salaam aaya", currently doing the rounds of television channels. The romantic song, which has Roop Kumar Rathod, Shreya Ghoshal and Suzanne D'Mello behind the mike, is a soft, light and pleasing number. It is worth a hear.

Next in line is Sonu Niigaam's "Meherbaniyaan". It starts with a long prelude and orchestration powers over the vocals. The fast-paced number is average and offers nothing great.

Then we have a very likeable track in "Kanha", a thumri sung by Rekha Bhardwaj with ample support from Shahab, Toshi and Sharib Sabri. This is one of the best tracks in the album. A song of this genre has been incorporated in a film after a long time. A must hear.

Finally, there is an instrumental piece called the "Spirit of Veer".

On the whole, Sajid-Wajid have made an effort to make the album different and they have succeeded in doing so.

Pyaar Impossible

Music Directors: Salim Merchant-Sulaiman Merchant

Lyricist: Anvita Dutt Guptan

Singers: Anushka Manchanda, Salim Merchant, Dominique Cerejo, Vishal Dadlani, Neha Bhasin, Neha Dayal, Mahua Kamat, Naresh Kamath and Rishika Sawant

Rating: ***

Actor Uday Chopra turns producer with "Pyaar Impossible", and the film boasts of young contemporary music, perfect for college-goers.

The film that stars Uday and Priyanka Chopra contains five originals and two remixes composed by Salim and Sulaiman Merchant.

The album opens with "Alisha", crooned by Anushka Manchanda and composer Salim Merchant himself. The free-flowing, catchy track is quite appealing thanks to Anushka's vocals and the general attitude of the song. Salim gives this song an extra edge and makes it an interesting hear.

The song also has a remixed version, which is high on energy and is an electronic spin to the original. It is ideal for the dance floor.

Next in line is the title track "Pyaar impossible" sung by Vishal Dadlani and Dominique Cerejo. The romantic track is hummable and the unplugged background music makes a good impact.

This song too has a remixed version, which is not too different from the original.

Neha Bhasin and Benny Dayal go behind the mike for "You and me", a peppy, fun track. The mix of Hindi and English lyrics and heavy influences of pop make it a song just right for youngsters. It is nice but not as appealing as the earlier tracks.

Up next is "10 on 10", a track that has a complete rock feel. It is energetic and high on beats with vocals by Mahua Kamat, Anushka Manchanda and Naresh Kamath. The foot-tapping song doesn't seem interesting initially but it slowly grows on you.

Then there is "Ek thi ladki", which has been sung by child artist Rishika Sawant. More of a narration than a song, "Ek ladki thi" is an average number.

On the whole, the album is a good mix of slow and fast-paced songs and goes well with the theme of the film. The soundtrack is urban, young and mainly for the younger generation.

Rocket Singh

Music Director: Sulaiman and Salim Merchant

Lyricist: Jaideep Sahni; Singers: Benny Dayal, Vishal Dadlani and Salim Merchant

Rating: ***

"Chak De! India" director Shimit Amin is back with "Rocket Singh - Salesman Of The Year". If the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer had six original tracks, the album of his new film has only three songs. But they are definitely worth a hear.

The music of "Rocket Singh", which has Ranbir Kapoor in the lead, is by composer brothers Salim and Sulaiman Merchant and the soundtrack has eight bonus tracks from old Yash Raj Films.

The first song "Gadbadi hadbadi" is sung by composer Salim himself. It is full of punch and is an energetic number. The song has a rock feel owing to its orchestration. It gets an edge when it slows down in between and then again gains momentum.

Next is a beautiful number "Pankho ko" crooned by Benny Dayal. The song has a certain raw appeal and the lyrics are insightful and intriguing. The strumming of the guitar makes it soft and soothing to the ears. The track holds the interest of the listener right till the end.

Finally, we have the title track that is doing the rounds of TV channels. "Pocket mein rocket" has Vishal Dadlani behind the mike and is a fun song. The foot-tapping number will be liked by many.

Other than these, the album has bonus tracks like "Chak de" ("Chak De! India"), "Chhaliya" ("Tashan"), "Dance pe chance" ("Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi"), "Dil haara" ("Tashan"), "Haule haule" ("Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi"), "Jogi mahi" ("Bachna Ae Haseeno"), Khuda jaane" ("Bachna Ae Haseeno") and "Lucky boy" ("Bachna Ae Haseeno").

The album might have just three original songs but they are appealing and quite interesting.

Ek Ladki Deewani Si

Music Director: Adnan Sami

Lyricist: Irfan Siddiqui

Singers: Adnan Sami, Tulsi Kumar and Jermaine Jackson

Rating: **1/2

Adnan Sami returns to non-film music after a gap of five years with his latest album "Ek Ladki Deewani Si", which comprises mostly love songs. It also boasts of a track by international pop star Jermaine Jackson, brother of late music legend Michael Jackson.

The album opens with "Ek Ladki", the title track. It is foot-tapping but there is some resemblance to Sami's previous tracks, which gives the song a heard-before feel. On the whole, an average song.

Up next is "Lets go to Mumbai city" that also features Jermaine Jackson. The song's video is currently doing the rounds of TV channels. To make it an amalgamation of Indo-western influences, both Indian and western instruments are used. However, apart from the international connect, the song offers nothing great. Neither is it bad nor is it brilliant.

Then there is "Mehfooz", which is a slow, melodious love ballad. It is intense and very well sung by Sami. The composition generates interest and proves to be a plus point for the album. The song has been arranged and programmed by composers Salim-Sulaiman.

Next in line is "Tu salamat rahe", a song that brings forth the saxophone, an instrument not heard often these days. This mushy offering is an above average song and will be liked by many for its composition.

Then we have another romantic track in "Tujhe dekha", though this one offers nothing extraordinary. The song, which has electronic beats in the background, is a duet with Tulsi Kumar.

"Sharmili" has a long musical prelude before the lyrics are heard. There is a certain punch in the song that makes it appealing. It is simple and very likable.

"Laila" is a totally avoidable song. It is fast-paced and has Arabic influences. But it fails in holding the interest of the listener.

Finally there is "Chalo", a beautiful and mesmerising song that has jazz influences. It is pleasing to the ears and wonderfully sung by Sami. The love song is very appealing with its soft orchestration and makes one want to hear it again and again.

Sami's new album is essentially an ode to people in love as it consists mainly of romantic tracks, which has been his forte.

Paa

Music Director: Ilayaraja

Lyricist: Swanand Kirkire

Singers: Shilpa Rao, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan and Amitabh Bachchan

Rating: ***

"Paa" is a film with an unusual story and music maestro Ilayaraja has composed tunes that gel well with the movie's subject. Director R. Balakrishnan's film stars Amitabh Bachchan as Abhishek's son Auro, who suffers from progeria that causes premature ageing. It also stars Vidya Balan.

The album begins with "Mudhi mudhi ittefaq se". Crooned by Shilpa Rao, it has an instant connect. It is melodious but not very long. The song is currently doing the rounds on television channels and has become a hit.

"Mudhi mudhi ittefaq se" has two more versions - "Udhi udhi", an extension of the original and "Gali mudhi" that has vocals by Shaan. It is slower in pace but equally nice.

Next is "Halke se bol". It is a children's song and has a chorus behind the mike. It starts without background music and later musical arrangements are introduced. This too is short in length and is an average number.

Up next is "Hichki hichki", more of a situational number that doesn't impress too much. The fast-paced track has been sung by Sunidhi Chauhan.

It is followed by the title track "Mere paa" by Amitabh Bachchan himself. It's more of a narration in the voice of a child than a proper song. The theme song is very endearing.

Finally there is "Gumm summ gumm" sung by the composer's daughter Bavatharini with ample support from the chorus. The song has influences of jazz and is a good hear.

On the whole, the album of "Paa" is not conventional and will appeal to music buffs. But most songs will get an edge with the visuals.
